Use of Alternative Energies

 Improve the use of the alternative energies:

          Because of the population's increase, the reliance on fossil fuels is decreasing because they are draining. For that reason, we had to search for another primary source to depend on, and that's where the word "alternative energy" came from. Alternative energy refers to renewable, clean energy sources. These sources produce lower carbon emissions compared to conventional energy sources. Moreover, these resources are sustainable as they are always abundant. There are many alternative energy types which are:

 

1. Solar energy:  Solar energy is widely produced as it mainly depends on the sun. That is because the entire world's energy can be covered with only one and half hours of sunlight that hit the earth's surface. Which is done by the photovoltaic cells (PV Cells) that convert the sunlight into electricity. 

  

2. Wind energy:  Another alternative energy source is wind energy. As the wind is almost available most of the time, we can use its motion. Because of the wind's motion, the kinetic energy produced can be used by wind turbines to generate electricity. These turbines work by rotating the blades around a rotor. Then this rotor drives a shaft connected to an electric generator. This process is affected by wind speed, swept area, and air density.

 

3. Geothermal energy: Thanks to the geological activity in the earth's crust, this produces an extremely high temperature. The geothermal power plant system consists of a group of pipes connected to the deep earth crust, and these pipes consist of water that boils because of the heat. Then, the steam produced goes into these pipes to reach a turbine connected to the end of the lines. Finally, the turbines rotate and produce electricity.

 

4. Hydroelectric energy:  Another widely common alternative energy resource is water. The system is based on creating a dam to create an elevation difference. Then the water flows, affected by the gravity, hitting turbine blades connected to a rotor driving shaft connected to an electric generator to produce electricity.

 

5. Biomass energy: Biomass is the chemicals produced from plants and animals. Following other resources, biomass generates electricity by burning it to boil water. Then, the steam is used to power a turbine to generate electricity.

 

Not only are the resources, but also many others are used widely these days to power the world.


Why are these challenges significant to address?

Inferring from the above, it is evident that there is no life without energy, whether it is electric or another. However, these days we rely mainly on fossil fuels to produce the desired type of energy, and this is terrible. This is because these sources lead to negative impacts, specifically high CO2 emissions, and high costs. If we continue doing this, we will end up in high global warming and a deteriorating economy. Moreover, these sources are non-renewable, which means they will drain one day. So, it is essential to search for other clean, cheap, and renewable sources.


Fortunately, alternative energy resources are found to achieve the required criteria mentioned above. These resources will allow us to produce more energy with the lowest possible emissions, and they will never drain. Thinking economically also, it is found to improve the economic situation.


So, using alternative sources will reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. That is why we must put a lot of effort into solving this grand challenge.
